Managing Director

Nahora Studio is currently in a strategic development phase, focused on assembling a core team in preparation for presenting the project to investors.
As part of this phase, a single-player game concept has been developed, featuring a strong narrative foundation and designed to deliver an immersive cinematic experience set within a fantasy universe.
We are seeking a Managing Director to lead the studio’s strategic, operational, and financial direction, helping translate creative vision into a sustainable, investable business.
Please note: During the pre-funding phase, this role will be structured as a flexible hybrid position, primarily focused on contributing to the project’s development and preparing it for investment. Upon securing funding, the position will transition into a full-time hybrid role based in Funchal, Madeira Island. At that stage, formal employment will be established.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead the studio’s strategic vision and operational execution, ensuring alignment between creative ambition and business viability;
- Establish operational structures, processes, and frameworks for an early-stage studio;
- Define and execute business strategy, including planning for growth, funding rounds, and investor relations;
- Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and risk management;
- Act as the primary external representative of the studio to investors, partners, publishers, and stakeholders;
- Evaluate potential funding opportunities, grants, co-development agreements, or partnerships, and collaborate with founders on financial decision-making;
- Help build and lead an operational team, mentoring future senior hires;
- Support founders in maintaining creative vision while balancing commercial and operational realities.
Required Skills
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience in executive management, operations, or corporate strategy;
- Proven track record of scaling early-stage ventures, ideally in creative, technology, or entertainment industries;
- Demonstrated ability to align creative or innovative projects with financial and operational sustainability;
- Strong strategic thinking, financial acumen, and operational discipline;
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and external representation skills;
- Empathetic, structured, and results-oriented leadership approach;
- Experience with early-stage fundraising, investor relations, or business development is highly valued;
- Prior experience in the gaming industry;
- Fluency in English.
Plusses
- Direct experience in AAA game studios;
- Familiarity with investment frameworks, venture capital, and publisher negotiations;
- Understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks for operating a company in Portugal;
- Experience managing hybrid creative-technical teams;
- Fluency in Portuguese.
